Police: 1 dead, 8 wounded in shootings across Chicago Wednesday

One person was killed and at least eight others were wounded Wednesday in shootings across Chicago, according to Chicago Police.

The fatal shooting happened about 11:30 p.m. in the Princeton Park neighborhood on the South Side.

Police responded to the 9300 block of South LaSalle where they found a 31-year-old man on the sidewalk with gunshot wounds to the chest, police said.

He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he later died, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the death.

The most recent nonfatal shooting happened about the same time in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

A 19-year-old man was walking with friends about 11:30 p.m. in the 4000 block of South Albany Avenue when a red car pulled up to them and someone inside got out and shot him in the shoulder and buttocks as he tried to run away, police said He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in fair condition.

Earlier in the evening, a man was shot several times in the Little Village neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

The 18-year-old was walking about 8:30 p.m. in the 2300 block of South Trumbull when someone in a dark-colored SUV started yelling gang slogans at him, exited the car and shot him in each leg, police said. He took himself to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

A 21-year-old man was shot two hours earlier in the Bronzeville neighborhood on the South Side. He was shot in the abdomen in the 4700 block of South Vincennes about 6:35 p.m and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition, police said.

Two people were wounded — one gravely — in a West Garfield Park neighborhood shooting about half an hour earlier.

A man and woman were in a parking lot in the 500 block of South Kostner about 5:52 p.m. when someone walked up and shot them as they opened fire on a nearby vehicle, police said. The 23-year-old man was shot in the ear and taken to Stroger Hospital in grave condition. The 53-year-old woman was shot in her left side and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in fair condition.

Earlier in the afternoon, a 26-year-old man was shot in the Lincoln Square neighborhood on the North Side.

He was standing on the corner in the 5000 block of North Bell at 1:50 p.m. when a Honda Civic pulled up and someone inside opened fire, police said. He was shot in the lower back and taken in serious condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

A 35-year-old man was critically wounded in a drive-by shooting in the West Garfield Park neighborhood less than two hours earlier.

He was walking in the 4500 block of West Wilcox at 12:19 p.m. when a silver Chevrolet Impala drove by and someone inside started shooting, striking him twice in the right side and once in the chest, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.

The first shooting of the day happened just after 2:20 a.m. in the Ukrainian Village neighborhood.

A 25-year-old man was standing outside near Division Street and Western Avenue at 2:24 a.m. when a vehicle pulled up and someone inside opened fire, striking him in the knee, police said. He took himself to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.
