Marc Trestman was fired Monday for the second time in 22 months.

The former Bears head coach was canned as the Ravens’ offensive coordinator despite the team’s 3-2 start; his unit was ranked No. 23 in both total offense (328.2 yards) and points per game (18.8).

“My obligations are to the team, the organization and the fans to be the very best team we can be,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh said in a release.

The Bears fired Trestman after only two seasons on Dec. 29, 2014. About three weeks later, he landed with the Ravens, who had also considered future Bears coordinator and Dolphins head coach Adam Gase for the position.

“I appreciate and respect the efforts and contributions Marc has made to the team since his arrival,” Harbaugh said. “Marc is a good person and an excellent football coach.”

Bears outside linebacker Willie Young, who played for Trestman in 2014, hadn’t heard the news and said he was too busy to worry much about it.

“We’ve got too much going on here at Halas Hall right now,” he said.

The Bears are still paying Trestman, who would have been in the final year of the four-year deal he signed upon his hiring in January 2013.

Trestman went 8-8 in his first season, losing the final two games of the year when a win in either would have put the Bears in the playoffs. He went 5-11 in 2014 and was fired, along with GM Phil Emery. They were eventually replaced by John Fox and Ryan Pace.

The Ravens promoted quarterbacks coach Marty Mornhinweg, the Lions head coach from 2001-02 who served as the offensive coordinator for the 49ers, Eagles and Jets, to replace Trestman.
