An Illinois State Police trooper was injured in a crash early Wednesday on I-57 on the Far South Side.

The trooper was assisting another officer about 2:30 a.m. on the offramp from southbound I-57 to 111th Street when another vehicle rear-ended his squad car, state police said.

The trooper was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, police said. Further details were not immediately available.

The men, 18 and 20, were in the 1800 block of West Monroe Street about 9:20 p.m. when two people got out of a light-colored sedan and fired shots. They were hospitalized in fair condition.
