A man was shot in the foot when he tried to bat away a robber’s gun early Saturday in the Washington Park neighborhood on the South Side.

About 3:30 a.m., the 32-year-old was walking in the 5900 block of South Calumet when two people walked up and demanded his things, with one of them brandishing a handgun, according to Chicago Police.

He swatted at the gun, which went off and hit his right foot, police said. The robbers ran away empty-handed.

The man was listed in good condition at the University of Chicago Medical Center.
