A 23-year-old man reported missing nearly two months ago whose body was found in a South Side park Tuesday afternoon was shot to death, an autopsy has found.

The body of Iaron Brooks was found on abandoned railroad property near Avalon Park in the 1200 block of East 83rd Street at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. A police source said it appeared the body had been there for some time.

An autopsy Wednesday found Brooks suffered multiple gunshot wounds and his death was ruled a homicide.

A missing person alert was issued for Brooks on Jan. 6 after he was last seen Dec. 22 in the 11400 block of South Calumet. Brooks lived in the 7800 block of South Shore Drive, according to the medical examiner’s office.
