$5K reward offered by FBI for man wanted in Christmas Eve bank heist

The FBI is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of a man wanted for a bank heist in the South Side Chatham neighborhood on Christmas Eve.

Damon A. Murphy, 32, is charged with the armed takeover robbery of the TCF Bank branch at 223 W. 87th St. on Dec. 24, 2015, according to the FBI.

Murphy and Davonyay Pratt entered the bank wearing ski masks at 12:30 p.m. and announced a robbery, according to a federal criminal complaint. One of the suspects pointed a gun at a bank employee, then grabbed the employee by the arm and took him toward a door that accessed the secure area of the bank where money is stored.

Another employee opened the door, and both robbers went inside, according to the complaint. After emptying several teller drawers, they fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. No one was hurt.

Pratt turned himself in to Calumet City police on Dec. 26 and is being held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center.

Murphy remains on the loose, according to the FBI. He is described as a 5-foot-11, 240-pound black man with brown hair, brown eyes and light complexion. He is considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information about Murphy’s whereabouts should call the FBI at (312) 421-6700. A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information leading to his arrest.
