Two men and a teen boy have been charged in a Heart of Chicago neighborhood shooting that left a man seriously wounded early Wednesday.

Ignacio Cruz, 28, of the 1800 block of West 21st Place, was charged with felony counts of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated fleeing, according to a statement from Chicago Police. He also faces seven misdemeanor traffic violations.

Jake Russell, 23, of the 7800 block of South Central in Burbank, and a 17-year-old boy whose name was not released were each charged with one felony count each of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, police said.

A 31-year-old man was sitting in a vehicle in the 2100 block of South Leavitt about 12:40 a.m. Wednesday when another vehicle pulled up and someone inside fired shots, police said at the time.

The man — who police said is a gang member — suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition, police said.

After the shooting, the three crashed their vehicle and were taken into custody by 12th District officers after a short foot chase, police said.

Cruz and Russell were each ordered held on a $1 million bond Friday, according to the Cook County state’s attorney’s office.

Court information for the 17-year-old was not immediately available.
