One man was charged with battery and two other men were charged with misdemeanor and felony drug charges early Friday after a DUI stop in Riverside.

The driver, 18-year-old Ricardo Avelar of Lyons, was charged with driving under the influence of drugs, illegal backing, driving without headlights, speeding and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said. A passenger, 19-year-old Jose A. Jimenez of Brookfield, was charged with felony possession of lorazepam, police said.

The men were pulled over by Riverside police at 1:26 a.m. at Ogden Avenue and Lawndale Avenue in Lyons after fleeing officers. The three men were “so severely under the influence of narcotics” that they were transported to MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn for medical attention, police said.

When an 18-year-old passenger arrived at the hospital, he became combative and had to be restrained, police said. He was charged with battery to hospital personnel.
