A 27-year-old man shot to death Thursday afternoon in the South Shore neighborhood has been identified as Paul Woods.

He was standing with a group on the corner 78th Street and Yates Avenue at 4:53 p.m. when someone opened fire, according to Chicago Police.

Woods was shot once in the back and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:32 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

An autopsy on Woods, who lived in the 8400 block of South Essex, will be conducted Friday, according to the medical examiner’s office.
