At least seven students from a South Side Back of the Yards neighborhood elementary school were hospitalized after taking pills Friday morning.

The eighth-grade students at William H. Seward Communication Arts Academy Elementary School in the 4600 block of South Hermitage took pills that were brought in by another student about 10 a.m. and began to feel ill, according to police and fire officials.

Two students were taken to Stroger Hospital, two were taken to Holy Cross Hospital, two were taken to University of Illinois Hospital and one was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, police said.

All the students’ conditions were stabilized, authorities said. It is not yet known what substance they ingested.
