SHARE 25-year-old driver killed in Lyons crash

A 25-year-old man was killed in a single-vehicle crash early Monday in west suburban Lyons.

The crash happened on 47th Street just west of Harlem Avenue about 2:15 a.m., according to Lyons village spokesman Ray Hanania. The vehicle struck a tree along the road before stopping.

The driver, identified as 25-year-old Jeffrey Lewis, Jr., was found outside the vehicle and taken to MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn, where he was pronounced dead at 3:17 a.m., according to Hanania and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Lewis lived in the 3700 block of Highland Avenue in Berwyn.

Lyons police are investigating along with Illinois State Police.

The men, 18 and 20, were in the 1800 block of West Monroe Street about 9:20 p.m. when two people got out of a light-colored sedan and fired shots. They were hospitalized in fair condition.
