A 31-year-old man was charged with robbing a 7-Eleven in southwest suburban Oak Lawn on Tuesday after being caught with cigarettes and cash taken in the robbery.

Chris E. Bauer of the 1100 block of Alann Drive in Joliet was charged with armed robbery, according to a statement from Oak Lawn police.

At 1:37 a.m., Bauer entered the 7-Eleven at 10441 S. Cicero Ave., walked up to the counter, displayed a knife and demanded money and cigarettes. The clerk complied, and Bauer ran out of the store and drove off in a gray van, police said.

Officers sent a description of the suspect and vehicle to surrounding agencies, and Alsip police officers found a subject sitting in a matching van parked in the 12100 block of South Cicero, police said.

Bauer was found with cigarette packs matching those taken from the robbery, cash from the robbery, and a knife that matched the description of the one used. The clerk later identified both Bauer and the van, police said.

Bauer was ordered held on a $250,000 bond.
