BALTIMORE — After making one appearance for the White Sox Thursday night, right-hander Daniel Webb was placed on the disabled list Friday with right elbow flexor inflammation. Right-hander Tommy Kahnle was recalled from AAA Charlotte to take Webb’s place in the bullpen.
Webb, 26, was called up Wednesday after the Sox returned one-time starter Miguel Gonzalez to Charlotte, and he pitched a scoreless inning with three strikeouts, two hits and a walk in the Sox’ 10-2 loss to the Baltimore Orioles Thursday. At Charlotte, Webb was 2-1 with a 3.38 ERA and two saves.
Kahnle, 26, has allowed three earned runs over nine innings with one save and 12 strikeouts over seven relief appearances at Charlotte. He has made 90 career major-league appearances over two seasons (2014-15) with the Colorado Rockies, going 2-2 with a 4.41 ERA. The Sox acquired Kahnle from Colorado in exchange for pitcher Yency Almonte on November 24, 2015.
The Sox are carrying 13 pitchers and may go back to 12 after the current road trip ends Sunday.
