Man killed in Woodlawn crash

A 36-year-old man was killed when his SUV crashed into a tree early Sunday in the Woodlawn neighborhood on the South Side.

Brandon Bass was driving a 2003 Kia Sorento southbound in the 6500 block of South Cornell about 5:25 a.m. when his SUV left the road and struck a tree, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Bass, of the 6900 block of South Dorchester, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:06 a.m., the medical examiner’s office said. An autopsy found he died of multiple injuries from the crash and his death was ruled an accident.

He was the only person in the vehicle and no one else was injured.

The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.
