A northwest suburban man has been charged with robbing two banks Thursday in Glendale Heights.
David A. Lee, 38, of Glendale Heights was charged with two federal counts of bank robbery, according to a statement from Glendale Heights police.
Lee robbed the Parkway Bank branch at 2250 Bloomingdale Rd. about 11 a.m., police said. He entered the bank through the front door, approached a teller and demanded money, police said.
Lee handed a teller a note indicating he had gun and wanted money, according to the federal criminal complaint. The teller also asked him to remove his sunglasses, to which Lee said, “Sure,” and removed them.
After receiving $626, he was seen driving away in a silver Saturn sedan, authorities said.
At 1:01 p.m., Lee committed a second bank robbery, this one at the TCF Bank branch at 567 W. North Ave., police said.
Lee presented the teller with a similar note and received $1,891 in cash with a GPS device hidden inside the bills, authorities said.
In both cases, no weapon was displayed.
FBI agents, and Glendale Heights and Carol Stream police used the tracking device to follow the money and stopped Lee while he was driving a silver Saturn in a parking lot near the bank. He was taken into custody, police said.
He was transferred to the custody of the FBI on Friday, police said.
Lee is being held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center, pending a detention hearing on Tuesday.
