A teenager was killed in an ATV crash Sunday night in northwest suburban Crystal Lake.

The ATV crashed in a field in the 2400 block of Bryn Mawr Lane about 7 p.m., according to a statement from Crystal Lake police.

The teenage boy who was driving was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police and McHenry County coroner’s office. The coroner’s office refused to released his name and exact age.

An autopsy Tuesday found he died of compressional asphyxia, or loss of oxygen from inability to breathe due to compression of the chest by the ATV, according to the coroner’s office.

Crystal Lake police are investigating the crash along with the coroner’s office.
