Cubs rookie Kyle Schwarber was scratched from the lineup on Wednesday against the Cincinnati Reds due to right rib soreness.

An MRI revealed Schwarber has a mild right rib cage strain, and the Cubs will shut him down for three to five days.

Some speculated Schwarber’s injury occurred while diving for a fly ball in the outfield.

But the Cubs rookie actually injured himself while swing the bat.

Schwarber, hitting .231 with six strikeouts in the last seven games, will miss the entire Arizona Diamondbacks series and could miss a portion of the St. Louis Cardinals series that starts on Monday.

Recently acquired outfielder Austin Jackson is expected to start in Schwarber’s place. Jackson was 2-4 with a double during Wednesday’s game.
