A woman was hospitalized after a kitchen fire inside a high-rise unit at a North Side senior community building where another woman was killed in a fire earlier this year.
Crews were called about 10 a.m. to the fire on the 28th floor of Breakers at Edgewater Beach at 5333 N. Sheridan, according t0 police and fire officials.
Light smoke from the kitchen fire seeped to the 29th floor and residents were told to stay inside. Firefighters used hand pumps to extinguish the fire in about 20 minutes, fire officials said.
A woman whose age wasn’t available was sent to Weiss Memorial Hospital with injuries that weren’t thought to be life-threatening, officials said.
Earlier this year, 81-year-old Ann Turner died after a fire at the same senior high-rise. That fire started on the 26th floor about 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 2.
