(VILLA PARK) A man was injured and at least two cats were killed in a west suburban house fire late Sunday in Villa Park.

Crews responded at 10:41 p.m. to the blaze at a home in the 1100 block of North Yale Avenue, Villa Park Fire Chief Ronald Rakosnik told reporters at the scene.

Heavy flames on the second floor of the home spread to an attached garage, which was expected to collapse, Rakosnik said. The fire was under control before midnight.

A man in the house was taken to Elmhurst Memorial Hospital, Rakosnik said. His age and condition weren’t immediately available. Two or three cats in the home were killed in the blaze.

The cause of the fire was unknown early Monday.
