Jonathan Toews becomes third player in Blackhawks history to reach impressive milestone

It’s a list so exclusive that it doesn’t even include all-time Blackhawk greats Bobby Hull or Stan Mikita.

With a pair of goals Thursday night, Jonathan Toews joined Denis Savard and Patrick Kane as the only players in franchise history to record at least 20 goals in each of their first nine NHL seasons.

In addition, Toews joins Kane and Alex Ovechkin as the only active players to accomplish the feat, according to a previous Sun-Times report.

Thomas Vanek, Jeff Carter and Rick Nash each have a chance to add their names to that list as well.

Savard, who scored 377 goals during his 17-year career, recorded 10 such seasons as a Blackhawk and then two more after joining the Canadiens in 1990. His No. 18 hangs in the United Center rafters.

Kane has registered 20 or more goals in each of his nine NHL seasons, and has already scored a career-high 31 goals this season.

Aside from Toews’ consistency, his ability to perform in any situation is what makes the Blackhawks captain so special.

According to Christopher Kamka of Comcast SportsNet, Toews has eight game-winning goals, five overtime goals, four power-play goals, three shorthanded goals and three empty-netters this season.

He scored a shorthanded goal and the overtime game-winner Thursday night in Arizona.
