The Cubs jumped out to an early lead in Wednesday’s wild-card game before Pittsburgh starter Gerrit Cole could even record the first out.

Dexter Fowler slapped a leadoff single into center field, stole second base and scored on Kyle Schwarber’s RBI single to give the Cubs a 1-0 lead.

Schwarber, a rookie, is batting .246 this season.

The winner of tonight’s do-or-die game will move on to face the Cardinals in the NLDS, which begins Friday in St. Louis.
