The South Halsted Street bridge over the Eisenhower Expressway is scheduled to close Friday night for overnight construction work.

Starting at 10 p.m., the South Halsted Street bridge will be closed to motorists and pedestrians until 6 a.m. Saturday, according to a statement from the Illinois Department of Transportation. Traffic will be rerouted to the South Morgan Street bridge.

The South Halsted Street entrance to the UIC-Halsted Blue Line station will also be closed from 10 p.m. Friday until 4 a.m. Monday, IDOT said. CTA riders should use the South Morgan Street entrance or the Peoria Street bridge to access the train.

The closure is necessary to pour the bridge deck as part of the ongoing Jane Byrne Interchange Improvement Project.
