Rookie Trayce Thompson helps White Sox rally past Red Sox

Rookie Trayce Thompson continued to make a splash with three hits and the tying and go-ahead RBI, and the White Sox rallied past the Red Sox for a 5-4 victory Tuesday night at U.S. Cellular Field.

Thompson, who raised his average to .522 with three hits including a triple, RBI single and two-run double, scored Gordon Beckham (2-for-4) and Melkey Cabrera with a two-out double into the left-field corner in the seventh inning, erasing a 4-3 Red Sox lead.

Thompson is 12-for-23 with five extra base hits since being called up from AAA Charlotte on Aug. 4.

The Sox had three runners thrown out on the bases, including Thompson when he was caught in a rundown between third and home after his triple. Geovany Soto was caught between second and third and Carlos Sanchez (2-for-4, RBI) was thrown out by right fielder Jackie Bradley Jr. trying to advance to third from first on a single.

Jose Quintana pitched six innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits and no walks. He struck out six and notched his 48th no-decision since 2012.

Jake Petricka (4-3), Zach Duke and David Robertson (two strikeouts, 26th save) each pitched a scoreless inning of relief for the White Sox (59-65). The Red Sox fell to 57-69.
