Angel Ortiz-Nunez | Elgin police

Police officers spotted a man burglarizing a car in northwest suburban Elgin early Friday, authorities said.

The officers were on bicycle patrol about 12:30 a.m. in the 700 block of Bluff City Boulevard when they saw 32-year-old Angel Ortiz-Nunez go into a vehicle parked on a driveway and start sifting through it, according to Elgin Police.

They contacted the owner of the vehicle, who confirmed Ortiz-Nunez “had no legitimate interest” in the car, police said.

Ortiz-Nunez, of the 100 block of Hinsdell Place in Elgin, was charged with one felony count of burglary to a motor vehicle and one misdemeanor count of drug paraphernalia possession.

He was ordered held on a $30,000 bond at a Friday hearing and is due in court again June 24, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office.
