A 19-year-old man was shot and critically wounded Thursday night in the Northwest Side Portage Park neighborhood.

A 28-year-old man told police he was walking about 11:40 p.m. in the 4000 block of North Laporte when he was approached by two males who announced a robbery and showed a weapon, according to Chicago Police.

The 28-year-old then pulled out a gun and shot the 19-year-old in the neck, police said. The second male ran off.

The younger man was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition, police said.
