When the initial casting for the Chicago production of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “Hamilton” was announced earlier this summer, the actors who would be playing two crucial characters in the wildly anticipated musical were left unnamed.

Now they have been chosen. Joshua Henry, whose Broadway credits include “Shuffle Along,” “The Scottsboro Boys” and Miranda’s “In the Heights,”will play Aaron Burr, an early friend and later a bitter rival of Hamilton, who killed him in a duel.
Jonathan Kirkland, seen in NBC’s “Shade of Blue,” will play George Washington, who helped propel Hamilton’s career during the Revolutionary War, and then named him as the first Secretary of the Treasury.

The large ensemble also has been named. None of them are Chicago actors.
