They were outside near David McCray’s home in the 6800 block of South Calumet when someone walked up and started shooting around 2:30 p.m., striking the man in the chest and the girl in the back of the head, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

McCray was taken to Stroger Hospital where he died at 2:49 p.m., authorities said.

The girl was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in “guarded but stable condition,” police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala said.
