Chicago theater audiences will see a very familiar face in the cast of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical “Fun Home” when the show kicks off its national tour in Chicago Nov. 2 at the Oriental Theatre, 24 W. Randolph.
Chicagoan Susan Moniz, whose extensive local credits include Marriott Theatre (“October Sky” and “Mary Poppins”), Lyric Opera (Oklahoma!” and “Show Boat”), and Chicago Shakespeare Theater, among others will star as Helen. Robert Petkoff whose local credits also include the Marriott Theatre and Chicago Shakespeare theater will star as Bruce. The two veteran actors’ resumes also boast extensive Broadway credits.
The show, directed by Sam Gold, is based on Alison Bechdel’s Pulitzer Prize-finalist graphic memoir, which introduces Alison at three different ages as she explores her life growing up in the family’s small-town funeral home with her uniquely dysfunctional relatives. The musical features a book and lyrics by Lisa Kron, and music by Jeanine Tesori.
Northwestern graduate Kate Shindle, a former Miss America (representing Illinois) and the current president of Actor’s Equity, will star as Alison, with Abby Corrigan and Alessandra Baldacchino playing younger versions the character.
