A man was fatally shot Friday morning in the South Side Avalon Park neighborhood.

Martel McCary, 24, was outside in the 7900 block of South Kimbark about 8:40 a.m. when a blue car pulled up, someone got out and they shot at him, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. The shooter then got back in the car, which drove away.

McCary, who lived in the same block, was shot multiple times and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:59 p.m., authorities said.
