The DuPage County Sheriff’s office is warning residents of an increase in vehicle thefts over the past three months.

Suspects stole unlocked vehicles that had the keys inside, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office. In some instances, the suspects took garage door openers from unlocked vehicles and entered the victim’s home to search for the keys.

All of the incidents occurred overnight, the sheriff’s office said. The suspects have also stolen purses, wallets and credit cards left inside the vehicles.

The sheriff’s office would like to remind the community to lock their vehicles and keep lights on outside.
