A northwest suburban couple has been sentenced to prison for giving a Bartlett man the heroin that led to his fatal overdose last year.
John Smrz, 32, came to the home of Anthony Brown and Hallie Manning on March 9, 2015 in the 5700 block of Dutch Mill Court in Hanover Park, according to a statement from the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office.
Manning gave Smrz heroin and when he overdosed, Brown dragged his body into the snow outside their home, prosecutors said. Police found him dead the next morning.
An autopsy for Smrz, of the 900 block of Longford Road in Bartlett, revealed that he died as a result of a heroin overdoes, prosecutors said.
Manning, 45, pleaded guilty to one count of drug-induced homicide on August 2, according to the statement. Judge George Bakalis sentenced her to seven years in prison.
Brown, 45, pleaded guilty Tuesday to the same charge, and Judge Bakalis sentenced him to eight years in prison.
Both will be required to serve 75 percent of their sentence before being eligible for parole.
