A man was left in critical condition after he was shot in the Austin neighborhood Tuesday evening.

The 36-year-old was a passenger in a vehicle in the 5500 block of West Jackson about 6:24 p.m. when he was shot in the back, police said.

He was taken to Loretto Hospital in critical condition, police said.
