A man was wounded in an East Garfield Park neighborhood shooting early Tuesday that also left a Chicago Police squad car damaged by gunfire on the West Side.

The 25-year-old was sitting on the porch of a home about 12:10 a.m. in the first block of North Francisco when two males walked up and opened fire, according to Chicago Police.

Officers who were on-duty at the time heard the gunfire and, when they responded the scene, found the victim and also found a bullet hole in the rear driver’s side door of their squad car, police said.

The man was shot in the right hand and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

No officers were wounded in the shooting and police said there was “no indication to believe that the police officers were the intended target.”

No one was in custody early Tuesday as Area Central detectives investigated.
