A 19-year-old Chicago man died Sunday after being shot in south suburban Dolton.

John Leary, who lived in the East Hyde Park neighborhood, was shot multiple times at 5:53 p.m. in the 14700 block of Blackstone Avenue in Dolton according to Dolton police and the Lake County coroner’s office.

He was taken to Franciscan Health in Hammond, Indiana, where he died at 6:58 p.m., the coroner’s office said. An autopsy Monday ruled his death a homicide.

Several spent shell casings were recovered from the scene, police said.

The South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force is investigating the shooting.
