A man was killed and three other people were wounded in a Tuesday afternoon shooting in northwest Indiana.

Just before 4 p.m., officers responded to a shooting at an apartment in the 500 block of Pointe Drive in Hammond. They found 19-year-old Khalil Carter and three other people suffering from gunshot wounds, according to Hammond police and the Lake County coroner’s office.

Carter, who lived on the same block, was shot multiple times and was taken to Community Hospital in Munster, Indiana, where he died at 4:45 p.m., the coroner’s office said. His death was ruled a homicide.

The other three victims were an 18-year-old man, a 19-year-old woman and a 17-year-old man, police said. The 18-year-old was treated and released from a hospital, but the other two victims’ conditions were not released Wednesday morning.

Police said all four victims knew each other and included. Some were visitors and the others residents of the apartment.
