A man and woman were killed in a crash Wednesday night in west suburban Elmwood Park.

A Chevrolet Impala struck a tree in the 3100 block of North 80th Avenue at 9:50 p.m., according to Elmwood Park police.

Diego Perez, 25; and Katherine Brooks, 26, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Perez lived in the Avondale neighborhood on Chicago’s Northwest Side, and Brooks lived in Cicero.

Autopsies Thursday confirmed both died of multiple injuries related to the crash, according to the medical examiner’s office. Their deaths were ruled accidents.

No other injuries were reported, police said.

An Illinois State Police reconstruction team was called to the scene, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The men, 18 and 20, were in the 1800 block of West Monroe Street about 9:20 p.m. when two people got out of a light-colored sedan and fired shots. They were hospitalized in fair condition.
