One man was killed and another was wounded in a shooting late Friday in northwest Indiana.

A shots spotter alerted police to four or five shots fired at 10:17 p.m. in the 4800 block of Alexander Avenue in East Chicago, Indiana, according to East Chicago police.

Officers found 25-year-old Ashanti Walden lying near a gated area with multiple gunshots wounds, police said. Walden, a Gary resident, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second victim, a 25-year-old East Chicago man, was taken to St. Catherine’s Hospital, where he was treated for a gunshot wound to the foot and released, police said.

Detectives canvassed the area, but the motive for the shooting is unknown.
