A man was fatally struck by a van late Saturday in the Little Village neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
Shortly before 11:30 p.m., 45-year-old Carlos Hernandez was trying to cross the street from between two vehicles in the 3900 block of West 28th Street when he was struck by a cargo van, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Hernandez was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:59 p.m., authorities said. He lived in west suburban Cicero.
An autopsy Sunday found Hernandez died of multiple injuries from the crash, according to the medical examiner’s office. His death was ruled an accident.
Two parked vehicles, a Mercedes-Benz and Chevrolet Malibu, were damaged in the crash, police said.
The driver of the van, a 49-year-old man who lives in the same neighborhood, was cited for not having a valid driver’s license, negligent driving and failure to yield to a pedestrian, police said. He was scheduled to appear in traffic court on Aug. 14.
The police Major Accidents Investigation Unit was investigating.
