Four people were injured, three seriously, when a Fuller Park neighborhood police chase ended in a crash on the Dan Ryan Expressway early Friday on the South Side.

About 2 a.m., officers responding to a call of shots fired saw a vehicle speed away from the 200 block of West 47th Street, according to Chicago Police.

They activated their emergency lights to pull the car over, but the driver took it into the southbound lanes of Interstate 90/94 and slammed into two other vehicles near 71st Street, police said.

The man who took off from police was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, and his passenger was taken in serious condition to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said.

The man driving the first vehicle they struck was taken to St. Bernard Hospital in good condition. Fire crews had to extricate the man driving the second struck vehicle, and he was stabilized before being taken to Stroger Hospital, police said.

Charges were pending Friday morning.

Outbound traffic on I-90/94 was shut down until about 3:45 a.m. as Area Central detectives investigated.
