Authorities are investigating the death of a 2-month-old Park Forest girl early Monday in the south suburb.

Officers were called 8:15 p.m. Wednesday to the first block of Hemlock Street in Park Forest for a report of an infant that wasn’t breathing, according to a statement from Park Forest Police Department Deputy Chief Christopher Mannino

The girl was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she was pronounced dead at 2:02 a.m. Monday, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

An autopsy Tuesday did not rule on her cause and manner of death pending further investigation. Police said foul play was not suspected.

The state Department of Children and Family Services is investigating the girl’s mother for allegations of neglect, agency spokeswoman Alissandra Calderon said. The investigation is pending. DCFS has not had prior contact with the family.
