A man was killed in a crash Saturday afternoon on Interstate 294 near southwest suburban Crestwood.

Eric Erstrom, 50, of Mokena, was driving a 1999 Jeep southbound at a “high rate of speed” about 3:30 p.m. on I-294 near West 135th Street when he lost control of the SUV after it struck a 2015 Ford F-250 and careened into the northbound lanes, according to Illinois State Police. The Jeep then rolled over after striking a 2008 Kenworth Wrecker tow truck that was traveling northbound,

Erstrom was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:22 p.m., according to state police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The driver of the tow truck, a 59-year-old Chicago man, was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with minor injuries, state police said. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation, state police said.
