A 51-year-old motorcyclist was killed and his passenger was injured in a crash Friday afternoon in northwest Indiana.
The crash happened at 4:51 p.m. at U.S. Route 30 and Grand Boulevard in Hobart, according to Hobart police.
The motorcycle was heading south on Grand when it was struck by a white SUV heading north and turning west on Route 30, police said.
The driver of the motorcycle, Jeffrey Marquiss of Hobart, and his passenger, a 49-year-old woman, were taken to St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart, according to police and the Lake County coroner’s office.
Marquiss, a Hobart resident, was pronounced dead at the hospital at 5:23 p.m., authorities said. His passenger survived.
The driver and passengers in the other vehicle were not injured, police said.
The Lake County sheriff’s office’s reconstruction unit is assisting Hobart police with the investigation. No charges or citations have been filed.
