A driver was cited for a traffic violation following a crash Friday night that killed a motorcyclist in southwest suburban Bridgeview.
Officers responded at 8:13 p.m. to a fatal crash in the 8800 block of Harlem Avenue, according to Bridgeview police spokesman Roy Hanania. Upon arrival, they learned that a Hyundai Santa Fe traveling south on Harlem was turning left into the parking lot of the Southfield Plaza, 8715 Harlem Ave., when it collided with a Harley-Davidson motorcycle driven north.
The motorcyclist, Milton Winters, suffered multiple injuries in the crash, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Winters, 32, of Palos Hills, was pronounced dead at 8:51 p.m., and his death was ruled an accident.
The Santa Fe’s 62-year-old driver, a Chicago Ridge woman, told officers that she didn’t see the motorcycle when she made the left turn into the parking lot, police said. She was cited for failure to yield turning left, Hanania said.
A witness who was traveling north on Harlem told officers that he saw the motorcycle traveling north on Harlem at a slower rate than the posted 40 mph speed limit when the crash happened, police said. The witness also noted that the traffic light was green for traffic in both directions.
