A 15-year-old boy was killed and a 19-year-old woman was wounded in a shooting Monday evening in the Chatham neighborhood on the South Side.

About 5:20 p.m., the two were walking in the 7600 block of South Champlain when someone approached them and fired shots, Chicago Police said.

Larenzo Smith, who lived on the same block, was shot in the chest and was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police and the Medical Examiner’s Office.

The woman was shot in the hip and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where she was in stable condition, police said.
