4 killed, 16 wounded in weekend shootings across Chicago

Four people were killed and at least 16 others were wounded between 6 p.m. Friday and and 5 a.m. Monday in weekend shootings across Chicago.

Jason Rodriguez, 27, died Sunday after he was shot the day before in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side. Rodriguez was in a vehicle about 3:50 p.m. Saturday when someone walked up to him in the 900 block of North Richmond and shot him in the neck and chest, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died at 1:42 p.m. Sunday.

On Saturday evening, two suburban men were killed in a Little Village neighborhood auto shop on the Southwest Side. Officers responding to a call of a person shot at 5:49 p.m. in the 3300 block of South Lawndale Avenue found 56-year-old Gilberto Casteneda and 33-year-old Alfonso Grandados Reyes unresponsive with gunshot wounds to their heads, according to authorities. Both pronounced dead at the scene. Reyes lived in Bensenville and Casteneda lived in Minooka.

Earlier Saturday, a 51-year-old man was was shot to death while driving in the South Side Longwood Manor neighborhood. About 3:50 p.m., Elliott Marshall was driving north in the 9500 block of South Vincennes when a vehicle pulled up next to him and someone inside fired shots, authorities said. Marshall was shot in the chest and pronounced dead at the scene at 4:12 p.m. He lived in the Brainerd neighborhood.

The last shooting of the weekend happened early Monday in the East Chatham neighborhood on the South Side. The 21-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk when someone in a silver sedan fired shots, striking him in the right leg about 4:45 a.m. in the 8200 block of South Ingleside, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital where his condition was stabilized.

In other shootings, a man wounded in a shooting Sunday evening on the Kennedy Expressway near Wilson Avenue and a 3-year-old boy accidentally shot his 9-year-old cousin Saturday morning in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side, police said.
