A woman died Thursday night, nearly two days after she was shot in the head while fleeing what was believed to be an attempted robbery in the South Side Englewood neighborhood.

Abut 2 a.m. Wednesday, 31-year-old Jasmyne Shoals and her two passengers were driving in 7300 block of South Union when they stopped to talk to a male they didn’t know, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. The woman ultimately drove off, fearing they were going to be robbed, and the male fired shots at her vehicle.

Shoals suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was taken to the University of Chicago, where she died at 9:22 p.m. Thursday, authorities said.

No other injuries were reported, police said.

Area South detectives were conducting a homicide investigation.
