A boy was wounded by gunfire Friday afternoon in the South Austin neighborhood on the West Side.

At 5:35 p.m., the 17-year-old was shot in the leg in the 5900 block of West Madison, according to Chicago police.

He was taken to a hospital, where his condition stabilized, police said.

Area North detectives were investigating.
