Madysen Meyer, bad cough and all, did it right her first time deer hunting. Within an hour and a half of opening morning Saturday of Illinois’ three-day youth season, she shot her buck in McDonough County.

“It was Amber Banach (her mom) and I,’’ Pete Banach messaged. “Her and I sat in a two-man ladder and I had set up a hang-on for Mom to sit in. LOL. Just cool all three of us being up there. Tears of joy in the end.’’
