A woman was struck and killed by a truck Tuesday, just minutes after she left her job at a restaurant in north suburban Des Plaines.

At about 10:30 p.m. at Sky Chef’s, 200 E. Touhy Ave., she was attempting to cross south on Touhy when she was hit by a Mack truck westbound in the inside lane, Des Plaines police said in a statement.

The 39-year-old driver of the truck stopped and waited for officers to arrive, police said. Paramedics attempted to revive the 56-year-old woman, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office said she lived in Brighton Park on the Southwest Side.

In their statement, police said there was poor lighting and no crosswalk at the crash site.

Drug or alcohol use was ruled out, and the driver was released without charges, police said. Three witnesses of the crash stayed at the scene until officers arrived.
