2 men shot, 1 fatally in Gresham

Two men were shot — one of them fatally — Thursday in Gresham on the South Side.

About 12:35 a.m., the men, 27 and 19, were sitting in a parked vehicle in the 900 block of West 83rd Street when someone walked up to them and fired shots, Chicago police said.

Deangelo Smith, the 27-year-old, was struck in the armpit and the 19-year-old was shot in the back, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. They were both taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where Smith was pronounced dead.

The 19-year-old has been stabilized, police said.

An autopsy found that Smith died of multiple gunshot wounds and his death was ruled a homicide, the medical examiner’s office said.

No one is in custody as Area South detectives investigate.
